He knew the movements, but he was stuck in his shoulders, not coming through his back, and started to show his objections by rearing. The whole group gasped when this 17.1 warmblood stood up and towered over Ariana, a feather of a woman, but she never batted an eye and remained calm. All of a sudden, he started to breathe and became butter in her hands. "I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your clinic this past weekend and the huge change I saw in Bodhi this morning when I worked with him. I worked him in the round pen first and he was so much more attentive to me. Many times he’s so busy looking around and fixating on something outside of the round pen and isn’t paying attention to me. He was so connected today. He moved forward with energy, but was calm and fairly soft. Typically he either doesn’t want to go forward energetically (as you know!)  or if he does, he over-reacts and then races around. His transitions were much smoother. We then worked on some lateral work (shoulders and hindquarters) and he did great. She has come up with some tools for me to use to help with our training and to help him adapt into a more structured life. I can't say enough nice things about her - her mannerisms are very calm and very quiet. She watches you work the horse, and then she decides what type of tools you can use to improve whatever it is you want to work on. Before your lesson, she even asks you what it is you would like to concentrate on, which I find very helpful because my horse is advanced in some areas and a remedial horse in others. I found her to be very, very easy to understand - she explains things very clearly and she's open, so that if you don't understand something you can certainly ask her and she will then explain it in a way that you do understand. I've been to other Liberty clinics where things were not as clearly explained as they were with Ariana - she explained why you would do certain things.
